February 2018 Yes, I was born and raised on the East Coast, but in 49 years had not made it to New York City yet! Luckily with Alex going to school just up the road in Albany, it was easy to arrange a trip for us to do the city together. Thanks to my friend Cheri, I got an amazing deal on a round trip flight for President’s Day weekend and then booked a great little VRBO on the upper East Side. I flew in a day earlier than the girls and made myself comfortable in my home away from home and did a little exploring of the neighborhood. Alex arrived by train the next day and Sera the day after. It was fun to be with two newly 21-year olds in the city!! Sera grew up outside of the City, so she was a great tour guide. Since this was my first experience, I let the girls pretty much guide the trip. The one thing that I was disappointed we didn’t get to do was eat at Serendipity….but maybe there’s a serendipitous reason for that… We squeezed so much into just a few days and I was so glad that multiple people warned me to bring comfortable shoes! We also had a little bit of all the weather…some snow, a little rain and some warm sunshine. We ate great food, sometimes we researched, but sometimes we just lucked out! Guess if I had to pick out my favorites, they would be The Tenement Museum, Katz’s Deli, The Brooklyn Bridge and The 9/11 Memorial. I’m sure the girls’ favorites were the Nintendo store and the Kid Gorgeous comedy show at Radio City Music Hall. For as much as I did get to see and experience in four days, there’s so much more to do in the City that never Sleeps!! Looking forward to going back there soon.
