I started to write a post on Facebook on Saturday to give my reasons “WHY” I was marching. But as I was writing it in my head, it was clearly too long for social media and I decided this would be a better platform for what I have to say. First, I want to point out how grateful I am to be one of the lucky ones. I have greatly benefited from white privilege and it’s a “bigly” reason why giving back to my community is so important to me. I also believe that I have been given these opportunities so that I can help someone, just as others have helped me. I march… Because women’s rights are human rights Because all people should be paid the same for doing the same job Because I want my daughter to not have to participate in protest marches for her rights I march…. Because I believe in marriage equality for everyone Because I believe that voting rights should not be undermined Because I believe recreational marijuana should be legalized every where I march… Because women should not have to hide their beauty and light in fear of being sexually assaulted Because college women should not be intimidated not to report sexual assault Because everyone should be entitled to health insurance I march… Because gun control Because gun control Because gun control Because how God damn many children have to be shot dead at school before some sensible gun control will be enacted!!! I march… Against Trump, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell and most of the GOP Against Conflicts of Interest Against 6 appointees being Goldman Sachs millionaires I march… Because I believe that Americans are better than the face that is being shown now Because I believe a nationalistic attitude towards jobs and trade will ruin the economy Because I believe that the elected President will be making deals that benefit him, not America It was an incredible experience to be part of something that was history making, even if it meant spending several hours in the pouring rain! And this is just the beginning. It is with pride that I will call myself a Feminist and Activist.
