Although I know there are many people who believe I am the ultimate extrovert, which is not actually true. I find that to really recharge, I need to spend time alone. Unfortunately in day-to-day life, although I might be spending time alone, it is usually spent doing chores or work…or mindlessly binge watching on Netflix, oops! I wanted to challenge myself and see how well I did traveling completely alone, including long drive times and camping. The Wallowa trip was a great way to see how well I can do with my own company. To give myself options, I put together a set-up that would allow me to sleep in the car if the weather was bad or I was feeling uncomfortable in a tent by myself. The drive was just a little under 6 hours, but I had saved up a bunch of Podcasts to listen to and those made the time go by very quickly. It didn’t hurt to be looking forward to dinner at Terminal Gravity either! It was really nice to be on my own time schedule and to not really have to compromise with anyone. This allowed me to make the crazy choice of doing an 18-mile hike and then another day, driving over to Hell’s Canyon. Although I was alone a lot, I still met lots of people and had great conversations. I find that when you are by yourself, people are much more likely to want to talk to you. I also had some crazy conversations with myself; especially on the hike…ask me about my interview with Oprah, lol! The SUP also generates lots of conversations…people always want to know how hard it is to do. It’s so fun to have a pretty easy and portable way to get out on the water when the opportunity presents itself! Leaving Wallowa Lake, I headed to Walla Walla, WA to do some wine tasting. Again, flying solo allowed me to have some great conversations! Ending my solo trip, I headed up to Leavenworth, WA for Paulene’s 40th birthday weekend. On the way, I stopped at Cooper Wine Company to visit my friend Cheri and got to see the bottling process….not to mention taste some amazing wines! Overall, I really enjoyed traveling solo…more than I actually thought I would! Basically I’ve determined that I don’t really need to wait for someone to go with me on adventures, although it is nice to share the experiences. Sometimes it’s just really nice to re-connect with yourself.
